Julie's Core is my team that's helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to defeat blood cancers.
Light The Night is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening walk to commemorate lives touched by cancer and to raise awareness of blood cancers. Anyone can participate. Children, adults and seniors are all welcome. This is a casual walk with no fitness requirements. Walkers carry illuminated balloons. Participants carry red balloons and our survivors carry white balloons as a symbol of hope.
Funds raised support our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Why Walk?
*More than 785,000 Americans have leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Every five minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
*Leukemia is the leading cause of cancer death among children and young adults under the age of 20.
*Lymphomas are the most common blood cansers, and incidence increases with age.
*The survival rate for myeloma is only 33 percent. Incidence is twice as high among African-Americans as for all other races.
Although progress has been made, there is still a great deal to accomplish. We are relying on YOU!

Be a donor!
The Caitlin Raymond International Registry is a comprehensive resource for patients and physicians conducting a search for unrelated bone marrow or cord blood donor.
*Every year, more than 30,000 patients are diagnosed with diseases treatable by a bone marrow or blood stem cell transplant - many will die while waiting for a suitably matched donor to be found.
*Diseases treated with stem cell transplant include leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, aplastic anemia and other cancers and genetic diseases.
*Prospective donors spend only a few minutes registering to make a difference. They will read through some information, ask and answer some questions and collect some cheek cells using a mouth swab. A blood test is not needed to register.
